The Rot at Grassroots

In this news report we will be concentrating on the funding in grassroots sport. We feel very passionate about this subject as all of us play at least one of these sports : football or rugby. We believe that our clubs are struggling from the lack of funding they are receiving from their respective boards, and this is leading to clubs not being able to find fresh new talent.
And with the whole of Wales watching the performance of the National Rugby Team – Cymru we question how they are supposed to uphold the glory of the past and perform when grassroots are deprived of the funding needed to allow young talent to thrive. Watch our video to learn more.

Do children get enough support in schools to become the best sports players they can?

That’s one of the six questions we asked Mike Phillips, former Wales rugby player who earned ninety nine caps for his country. He started off as a nobody but with hard work, support from his brother and pure determination, he managed to fulfill his dreams and played for three professional clubs in Wales. He discussed the role school could play to support and inspire a generation of young and talented sports players. Mike said when he was younger his school didn’t give him all the support he needed but said it is different nowadays. This is true because there is more emphasis on keeping fit these days and teachers are specially trained to give talented young players the feedback they need to improve. We believe that schools have changed the way that sport is carried out, for example our school has three rugby teams; the A team, B team and c team. This is a fair way to encourage children who don’t have much experience in sport and also lets the better players get the chance to play with players of the same levels at the same time.
